This Week in Podcasts: 11/11/18 – 11/17/18

This Week in Podcasts is a weekly roundup of mini-reviews of all of the podcasts I’ve listened to in a week. If you see any podcasts that you feel are missing from my list, there’s a good chance I haven’t listened to the show yet! You can see my current list of podcast subscriptions here. Feel free to give me recommendations–as well as any feedback or discussion!–in the comments below or on twitter.  You can see a list of every episode that has scored within the A range here.

“Ep. 10: That’s a Dunk, Brother!”

HORSE has continually been one of the most surprisingly delightful new debuts in 2018, especially for listeners like me who don’t know anything about sports. While HORSE has been a hilarious listen out of the gate, in their tenth episode, the hosts’ comedic timing seems even more attuned to each other. This is likely helped by Mike Schubert’s recent move to New York where he now records with his co-host, Eric Silver, in person–and the results are episodes that are even more filled with jokes.

My Brother, My Brother and Me
“MBMBaM 433: Fred Savage, Piss Warrior”

While this episode of MBMBaM was funny, what made it special was its interesting usage of editing. MBMBaM has been around for about a decade, but it’s ever really ventured into any sort of editing aside from removing missteps, pauses, etc. In this episode, though, the episode plays clips of the films they’re discussing. This is, it should be noted, what most other podcasts consider the bare minimum of editing; it’s just never been MBMBaM‘s style. Here, though, it feels new and interesting. It hasn’t been too long since all of the brothers embraced podcasting as their full-time employment, and it seems like they’re taking it a bit more seriously. It’s nice to hear that come across in MBMBaM, even in subtle ways.
