This Week in Podcasts is a weekly roundup of mini-reviews of all of the podcasts I’ve listened to in a week. Greater Boston
“Episode 26: But Perhaps There is a Key”
Along with many other favorite audio dramas, Greater Boston returned this week with a beautiful opening episode. In this episode, a story is told from a different perspective, and an intriguing new character–played by Kristen DiMercurio–is introduced. The writing in this episode takes center stage, flirting with comedy but rooted firmly in the introsepctive, deeply human drama that’s emerged as a backbone for the podcast as a whole. Greater Boston is always concerned with the life each character leads, and this episode focuses on the youngest Stamatis sibling, Dimitri. The episode efficiently renders Dimitri both sympathetic and frustrating, outlining his mindset and motivations without applauding or condemning them. The episode has a secondary story centered on Michael in a spiral of grief and panic–even for Michael’s standards–that drive another nail into this episode’s edge of introspective emotion.
