This Week in Podcasts is a weekly roundup of mini-reviews of all of the podcasts I’ve listened to in a week. Han and Matt Know It All
“#77: Han and Matt Agree to Disagree”
One of the most important things about Han and Matt Know It All, an advice show of second opinions for advice shows, is that their distance from most question-askers enables a more impartial discussion of the question; because Han and Matt don’t owe anything to the question-asker, they can call them out or roll their eyes at the question entirely. In “#77: Han and Matt Agree to Disagree,” though, this takes a slightly different and fascinating turn. When answering a question about whether or not the asker has to honor their deceased father’s wishes to donate his money to, essentially, groups trying to limit human rights, Han and Matt find themselves at an impasse. The two fundamentally disagree on what the ethically moral decision is in the situation, which culminates in an intriguing discussion and leaves on a note of ambivalence, as the title suggests. It’s an interesting, complex discussion that remains authentic and never gets towards hostile. It’s exactly the sort of conversation that makes this podcast a standout in its genre.
